What is tennis elbow?
Tennis elbow is microscopic tearing to your forearm tendons causing pain around the outside of your elbow.
What causes tennis elbow?
- Repetitive activity: racquet sports, manual labour, excessive computer use
- Overuse of your forearm
- Poor technique
- Tight forearm muscles.
Signs and symptoms
- Dull elbow pain
- Reduced grip strength
- May have an ache at night
- Pain with lifting objects
- Pain with sport or exercise.
Treatment
- Advice to avoid aggravating activity and rest
- Eccentric strengthening for wrist
- Stretching
- Soft tissue massage to forearm muscles
- Forearm band may help reduce stress through tendon.
- In chronic severe cases evidence has shown that blood infusion to the tendon can be successful in resolving pain.
